Another Shooting Occurred In Toronto Last Night And Here Are All The Details So Far
More gun violence continues in Toronto after a week of shootings occurring almost every day. Last night another man was shot and is in life-threatening conditions from the incident.
The shooting happened near Weston Road and Sheppard Avenue at around 11 PM on Thursday night. Emergency services were called after gunshots were heard inside a residential building, where the man in his 50's was found with serious gunshot wounds.
This shooting was the seventh to happen in Toronto since this past Sunday. People are already comparing summer 2018 to the "summer of the gun" in 2005, where 52 people lost their lives due to gun violence.
Sunday night there were four separate incidents where police were called to shooting scenes. Three victims were injured but a shooting near Lester B. Pearson Collegiate led to the death of 21-year old York Univers ity accounting student, Venojan Suthesa.
Following on Monday night, another shooting in Yorkville led to the death of 37-year-old Matthew Staikos. Staikos a CEO of a tech startup called Vleepo and was identified as the sixth person killed in a period of eight days, at the time.
Thursday led to another attack in Yonge and Dundas square, where Toronto police have just identified that 18-year old Pickering resident, Israel Edwards, was killed. Police and paramedics were called to the scene just after 11 PM.
Mayor John Tory has said that he is worried about the apparent rise in gun violence in Toronto. He said that police enforcement is doing everything they can but these crimes will be in no way brushed aside.
