Canada, Pomeroy finish just off the podium
Canada, with Placentiaâs Jordan Pomeroy on the roster, finished fourth at the 2018 WBSC world junior menâs softball championship in Prince Albert, Sask.

Canada had defeated the New Zealanders â" top-ranked in the event â" in round-robin play, part of a 5-0 run for the host team in the preliminary schedule of the tournament.
But they couldnât do it a second time, falling 5-2 to the Kiwis in the what was the Canadiansâ third contest of the playoff rounds.
The 18-year-old Pomeroy, Canadaâs youngest player in the tournament, finished tied for the team lead with eight RBIs while posting a .316 batting average. He reached base 10 times on six hits and four walks, hit two homers â" including a grand slam â" and scored five runs.
Canada lost to Australia 2-0 in their first game of t he playoffs, then took their double life into a Saturday-morning matchup against Argentina, which they won 6-4. That set up the evening game against New Zealand, which would finish third in the championship.
